HEAT was developed through an industry-academic collaboration between academic experts in AI ethics, design, and policy at the University of Cambridge and an AI development team at Ammagamma (now Accenture). The result is a unique source of rigorous and actionable interactive guidance made easily accessible through a web-based platform. HEAT guides teams to get up to speed, take action, and systematically document their responsible AI efforts.

HEAT was designed especially with small to medium AI developers of high-risk systems in mind. Responsible development of high risk systems is critical and lack of resources should not stand in its way. The freely accessible HEAT tool makes it possible for all SMEs to get up to speed with the Act, take action to comply, and incorporate best practices for safe, ethical and pro-justice approaches to AI development.
